As part of a strategic collaboration with the FVS – Swiss Road Safety Fund, the deployment, carried out in partnership with the LAB, was structured in two distinct phases aimed at assessing the effectiveness and large-scale applicability of the FlineBox technology across Switzerland.

Phase I (6 months):
The initial rollout focused on the canton of Vaud, where six FlineBoxes were deployed for an intensive evaluation period, allowing for in-depth performance assessment and real-world data collection.

Phase II (5 months):
Building on the insights gained during Phase I, the deployment was significantly expanded. A total of 36 FlineBoxes were distributed across six key cantons (Zurich, Basel, Fribourg, Vaud, Geneva and Valais), enabling comparative analysis and validation of the impact on road safety at an inter-cantonal level.

Since the launch, more than 31,000 breath alcohol tests have already been carried out. Initial feedback from participating venues has been highly positive: the FlineBox is perceived as a practical, intuitive, and easy-to-integrate tool, to the extent that staff members themselves actively and enthusiastically use it. From a user perspective, feedback is equally encouraging, with an average of 300 tests per month per venue.

The first two phases of the project represent a clear success. The data collected highlights the relevance of this approach and provides essential insights into behaviors related not only to driving under the influence, but also to alcohol consumption more broadly. These findings can support, adapt, or inform the development of road safety policies, extending their impact beyond the sole issue of drink-driving.
